To all African Union Diaspora Retreat Participants

Dear Sisters, Brothers and Friends of Africa:

It is my distinct pleasure to convey to each one of you my best wishes for a prosperous and abundant 2019 and to our beloved continent further progress in meeting the aspirations of her citizens and all people of African descent for a peaceful and integrated Africa.

I want also to seize this opportunity to express to you my sincere thanks and gratitude for your active participation in the First Annual African Union Mission Diaspora Retreat, held in Baltimore, Maryland on December 20, 2018. I am grateful that you were part of this momentous occasion that translated our commitment to place Diaspora engagement high on our agenda and as a strategic priority of the African Union mission to the U.S. The rich perspectives and expertise you brought during our constructive and open exchanges throughout our retreat contributed to its great success.

This Retreat has created a unique platform for the mobilization of all people of African Descent in their different formations for the development of the continent within the framework of Agenda 2063. The outcomes of the Retreat starting from the adoption of the Constitutive Act of the African Union Diaspora 6th Region Network applicable to the African Diaspora in the US only, the launch of African Diaspora Savings and Investment Account as an innovative instrument to invest in the African Centres of Excellence (WAKANDA) in each region of the continent are a strong testimony of your commitment to build the Africa We all Want.

Reflecting on the deliverable of our first Retreat l would like to pay tribute to all sisters and brothers who believed in this ambitious and transformational project, and acknboledge their generous efforts for contributing in laying the bridges between the African Union and all the African Diaspora from the Americas, Europe, the Caribbean, Southern America and Central America. This is the beginning of a promising journey and I am committed to ensure the necessary follow-up for this Retreat and seek your valuable inputs and ideas as we plan for our next gathering in spring 2019. Your feedback, comments and/or questions can be addressed directly to me at This email address is being protected from spambots. The Pan African Diaspora Women Association (PADWA), Pan African Diaspora Youth Association (PADYA) and Pan African Diaspora Men Association (PADMA) will play in this particular regard a key role as vehicles to mainstream Diaspora participation in the Union's ambitious agenda in the Americas.

I want to assure you once again that the African Union Mission to the US in conformity with its core mandate will spare no effort to facilitate the important contribution of Africa's children to the Continent's prosperous future through sustained engagement and innovative partnerships and by enhancing their interaction with and involvement in the African Union various activities.

In conclusion, I want to reiterate to each one of you my sincere thanks for your active participation in the First Annual Diaspora Retreat and commend your dedication to our beloved continent.

Please accept my best regards.
