and the African Diaspora

The African Union (AU) Mission to the United States of America will host the first-ever Miss AU Diaspora Pageant 2018 on December 7, 2018, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Washington DC, at 7 pm. The aim of the Pageant is to promote the work of the African Union in the United States and the Americas; create awareness about issues affecting Africans and those in the Diaspora and promote African attire, traditions, food and other social and cultural aspects.

Twenty-six contestants from African countries and those in the Diaspora will take part in the Pageant. The winner of the contest will serve as AU Goodwill Ambassador for a year, carrying the continental body’s key messages to various global audiences. She will also take part in activities to showcase the work of the organization.

Two days prior to the contest, there will be preliminary auditions and coaching at the same venue, at which twenty-six contestants representing Africa’s six geopolitical regions, including the Diaspora, will receive necessary training and information regarding the pageant. They will be briefed on the African Union and its mandate, as well as receive training in business and marketing skills, etiquette and diplomacy.
