and the African Diaspora

The African Union (AU) Permanent Mission to the United States of America has expressed deep sadness at the death of US Senator and former Presidential candidate John McCain.

Senator McCain passed away on August 25 after a long battle with cancer. In paying tribute, AU Ambassador to the US, Dr. Arikana Chihombori-Quao said that the passing of the Senator was not only a loss to the American people, but also to the Africans. He left us a legacy that we will cherish and learn from for the rest of our lives.

“We Africans have a lot to learn from his ability to cross the political divide and his resilient spirit. On behalf of the African Heads of State, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat and Africans on the continent and in the Diaspora, we send our prayers to his wife, children and his entire extended family. May he rest in peace,” said Ambassador Chihombori-Quao.
